Straight Talk is a new prepaid service put on the market by Tracfone, which is already a major player in the prepaid cellular market. The Straight Talk prepaid cell phone plans (there are two of them) are very competitive and show that the company, which boasts 12 million U.S. subscribers, is serious about getting a lot more business in the pay as you go wireless market. In recent months, several companies have released very competitive “unlimited” prepaid plans. Boost Mobile was the first to drop prices and cross an unspoken boundary by putting its Monthly Unlimited Prepaid plan on the market. The plan costs $50 and provides subscribers with unlimited talk time, text messaging, and data usage for web surfing from a cell phone handset. Some people were wondering how Boost was able to turn a profit as such a low price point and other industry insiders were worried that a price war would ensue. In some ways it has. Boost released this plan early this year and other companies soon followed.
Straight Talk Prepaid Cell Phone Plans
As I mentioned, there are two plans from this new brand, and three phones that work on them (and are priced from approximately $30 to $100). They both operate on 30 day cycles, which means you pay ahead of time before you begin using your phone and 30 later, you have to renew your plan. You can set your options to have automatic renewal so there is no disruption in your service.
The first plan is a true unlimited phone plan, which provides subscribers with limitless talk time, text messaging, and 30 MB of data use. One key thing to know is that this service runs on Verizon’s vaunted network, which means Straight Talk plans have the benefit of strong signal quality and better coverage across the United States.
The second plan—and this is very competitive—is cheaper at $30. This plan comes with 1,000 minutes, 1,000 text messages, and 30 MB of data for web surfing. 1,000 text messages means you can send 33 every day! That’s a pretty good deal at that price. Look for this plan to really blow up and become popular. Subscribers could conceivably have cell phone service (including the phone itself) for $400 for the entire year.
Reasons the Tracfone unlimited prepaid cell phone plans are very good options.
- They run on a great network.
- They are priced very aggressively—especially the $30 plan.
- They have good phone handsets for you to choose from.
