Samsung Finesse: Straight Talk’s Prepaid Smartphone

by John on February 19, 2010

FINESSE SCH R810The Samsung Finesse r810c is a touchscreen smartphone recently made available with Straight Talk prepaid plans.  Straight Talk is an interesting prepaid wireless brand because it only has two plans–but both plans are very competitive. Have a look at the two new Straight Talk smart phones, the Nokia E71 and 6790 phones.

You might also be interested in the Nokia E5 3G phone that was just released.  This is the second best phone available for Straight Talk right now.  Probably the best phone, not to discount the E5, is the new Android Samsung Precedent that was just recently let out of its cage.  You can buy this phone on the official Straight Talk website.  Yes, I know that a lot of people love the Samsung Finesse, but it’s time to face the fact that it’s gone and it’s never coming back.  For all of the great elements of this phone, there were some real flaws and the phone is truly outdated.

Samsung Finesse is a step up from the other phones sold by Straight Talk.  It’s also a premonition of things to come in the prepaid sector.  More smartphones will be made available in the near future on more prepaid plans from all providers.

It just makes sense.  Customers like you and me often want nice, high-end phones with nice user interfaces on large colorful screens.  Every time a new phone comes out, we expect more out of our mobile devices.  I see no reason why there won’t be more high end phones for pay as you go plans.

There is a new Straight Talk Android phone coming out very soon, the LG Optimus 2X.  Read about it here.

Straight Talk’s Samsung Finesse features:

Touchscreen

Slide-out qwerty keypad

2 megapixel camera

Video recorder

mp3 player

EVDO data transmission

See availability and pricing of the Finesse at Straight Talk’s Website.  When you get to the site, move your cursor to the “Shop” button in the navigation at the top left of the screen.  A drop down menu should appear.  Click “Phones.”  From there, you will be prompted to put in your zip code to see which phones are available in your area as some models aren’t available in some states.

The next screen will show you all the available phones and plans from Straight Talk.

Finesse was a really nice phone. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be available anymore.

Gary V June 13, 2011 at 12:57 pm

I got the samsung r355 c phone on straight talk, it’s a really good phone. someone suggested st when I told them I was a tracfone user. It has a good plan for the unlimited use.

Jimmy June 17, 2011 at 1:36 pm

I loved the samsung finesse when i had it with metropcs. tried to get it with straight talk, but it wasn’t available on the site anymore.

Vargas June 29, 2011 at 8:17 pm

I had the Samsung Finesse on a no contract plan a few years back with MetroPCS. It was awesome. A really fun phone, but now it’s a little obsolete.

Robert June 30, 2011 at 1:08 pm

The Finesse was an awesome phone. Sure, it had a lot of problems, but it was fun to play with.

Jade Galbo July 4, 2011 at 12:04 am

I really liked the Finesse but it was a little out of my price range. I don’t need a smart phone with my prepaid plan–but I do see the appeal. I guess I’m too frugal :)

Carp July 6, 2011 at 3:55 pm

I love my straight talk cellular. it’s affordable and durable.

Christie July 10, 2011 at 8:38 pm

The Finesse is a nice phone–it’s too bad you can’t buy them now from Straight Talk anymore.

admin July 11, 2011 at 11:05 pm

I guess that’s kind of true Vargas, and it’s really the reason the Straight Talk moved on from selling that phone and is now selling new smart phones like the Nokia E71.

Bobby July 12, 2011 at 9:42 pm

I wish the finesse was still available since I’ve heard good things. My thing is I want a smartphone that’s prepaid. I don’t want an android phone, just a good smart phone. Not an iphone either.

admin July 12, 2011 at 11:00 pm

Nokia 6790 and Nokia E71 have just been released and they are both nice Straight Talk phones. The Samsung t528G (not a smartphone) is also a nice phone and quite affordable.

Johnnuy W. July 14, 2011 at 10:54 am

Great phone–while it lasted. I’m not as impressed with the new straight talk smartphones.

admin July 18, 2011 at 5:06 pm

People sure seem to love the Samsung Finesse!

Jodie Soley August 4, 2011 at 7:35 pm

I really really wanted this phone when it was available a year or so ago. It was in a local walmart store for like a month and when I went to buy it it was gone. Then the finesse was no longer on the website for purchase. I then bought the nokia 6790 phone, which was a good choice for me.

Ive been reading alot about prepaid phones in the magazines and newspapers I subscribe to. I didn’t know what a smart phone was until a few days ago lol, but now I want one. I’ve been a prepaid user for six years so I’m now looking for a good prepaid smart phone since I just cannot afford an iphone or crackberry.

admin August 5, 2011 at 11:39 pm

Dean – Straight Talk has a few smart phones out now: Nokia E71, E5, and 6790. TracFone has a touchscreen phone out now. Virgin Mobile has a few LG Android phones and MetroPCS has a couple android phones too. Start there. I have heard good things about Straight Talk’s Nokia E5. TracFone also has some of the best minutes rates in the business.

Carlos August 6, 2011 at 2:26 am

Enjoyed reading this. Pumped on the new straight talk smart phones.

Rex Ryan August 6, 2011 at 5:14 am

This is one of my favorite cell phones of all time. I just wrote a long post about how I missed using my samsung finesse even though it had a lot of problems. I like to think that the phone was an ambitious one that was just a little bit ahead of its time.

Johnny boy August 6, 2011 at 10:02 am

Epic phone. I love this phone. I have one but it doesn’t work with any plan right now. I want to flash it and get it on straight talk. Mine is on AT&T.

Liz Day August 24, 2011 at 3:00 pm

I love the finesse. I still have one from the metropcs days–it doesn’t work but that’s cuz it’s old. how do these new straight talk phones line up with that phone?

admin August 24, 2011 at 7:22 pm

Liz – The new Straight Talk phones really do add some good elements. Nokia E5 is a good one right now. A new Android phone is coming soon so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Phillip Stinehour September 2, 2011 at 3:36 pm

They should bring back the Samsung Finesse. But I do think the new Android ST phone has promise. Price looks good too.

Bobby September 3, 2011 at 8:10 am

Awesome awesome phone, I wish I could activate it right now and use on Straight Talk or Tracfone or something.

graffiti artist September 3, 2011 at 12:07 pm

The Samsung Finesse had some great things about it, but there were definitely some defects to it.

Jim Smathe September 6, 2011 at 4:28 am

I don’t think I need a touch screen phone, just a simple flip phone. Are there any of those free straight talk phones around still or are they gone now? that would make me happy i think, nothing fancy.

Montclaire September 6, 2011 at 12:58 pm

Straight Talk’s smart phones are hard to choose between. Which one is best?

Wayne September 6, 2011 at 2:04 pm

The Finesse has been gone for a long time. the new android phone that you wrote about here seems pretty nice, but is it an upper echelon phone? I want to read some more reviews, but I think I’m sold.

admin September 6, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Montclaire – Right now, the new Android phone the Straight Talk Samsung Precedent is probably the best phone. It runs Android 2.2, it has a touch screen, a good camera, swype texting, and some other cool options. At $149, it’s a decent price too for an android with no contract and an unlimited plan.

admin September 6, 2011 at 8:33 pm

Jim – It looks like the Samsung t255G is still being offered free on StraightTalk.com. This deal changes quite often, but there has consistently been a free straight talk phone offer going for at least a year.

admin September 6, 2011 at 8:34 pm

Wayne – The Straight Talk android phone does look nice. Read the review on this site and see if it’s a good phone for you. The samsung precedent android is cheaper than the nokia e5, e71, and nokia 6790 (all the other smartphones from this company).

Walt September 7, 2011 at 12:34 pm

Great phone. Great service.

Duncan Matsuki September 7, 2011 at 4:21 pm

Really cool phone while it lasted. I’m more interested in the new straight talk android phone. Is it a good one? I like the touch screen phones but sometimes they don’t work well. What’s the deal with this one?

Norris K. September 7, 2011 at 7:22 pm

I guess you can’t get samsung finesse anymore. What about on ebay or amazon? will these phone work with straight talk.

Sarchy September 18, 2011 at 5:16 am

The Finesse was a really great phone, but now it looks like the Android straight talk phone has taken its place. I still miss it though.

Hank Lawson October 13, 2011 at 1:15 am

I used to really love this phone. I remember when the Samsung Finesse came out I thought it was going to be the new iphone killer or something like that. When I got it though, it was nothing like an iphone–barely even a smart phone. Still it was fun to say I had a touch screen prepaid phone!

Singer October 14, 2011 at 1:15 pm

I had the finesse when it was on metropcs years back and I was a little disappointed with the cost and the problems the phone seemed to have for the whole time I had it.

carol October 14, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I love this phone so much.

Jonathon Martine October 15, 2011 at 7:45 pm

I think the Nokia E5 or the LG Optimus Q (I just looked at the phone on the site) are the two best smart phones. they’re both smart phones right? Or is android a different thing? I like the apps so I want one of these phones.

admin October 15, 2011 at 10:14 pm

Jonathon – If you like apps, then one of the android phones–Precedent or LG Optimus Q–are probably the best options since you can download apps from the Android marketplace, which is the second best place to get mobile apps. The first is itunes.

Bobby October 18, 2011 at 3:35 pm

It used to be a nice phone but now it’s obsolete. I remember when it was on straight talk but then it disappeared all of a sudden.

Biggie November 2, 2011 at 4:56 am

I love the efforts you have put into staying on top of the mobile phone game. Thanks.

Jack3d November 2, 2011 at 9:16 pm

All of the new android and smart phones on the tracfone plans are very nice.

Prepaid Smart Phones November 2, 2011 at 10:18 pm

I’m a fan of android prepaid phones and as soon as smart phones were available i snatched one up from metropcs. I didn’t like it that much so now i have the nokia e71 from straight talk that i got for $99 on sale because it was refurbished but it works perfectly!

Ayuda November 4, 2011 at 4:58 pm

I miss this phone. I really do. Are there any net 10 or straight talk phones like it out right now?

Bobby November 5, 2011 at 12:19 am

Is the Samsung Finesse still available for the straight talk unlimited plans or was it replaced by new android phones? Curious because I’d love that phone.

John November 16, 2011 at 7:21 pm

Bobby – Samsung Finesse is no longer available for Straight Talk. In fact, it’s not available with any company since it’s so old. And yes, ST does now have two android phones.

John February 5, 2012 at 7:24 am

You’re welcome Biggie. Let me know if I can help you out with anything regarding prepaid phones.
